It's Cursed, I Tell You!
Wednesday 07-23-2008 11:52pm PT

Hmmm......

Another memo on the wall, huh?

That could only mean one thing.

I guess it's time for ANOTHER B95 Mixer Idol.

You know, that contest that we seemingly run too often where we hire a new mixer based solely upon how many votes a person gets on our website.

If you want a new career DJing on the station and this sounds like a contest you want to win, I have only one small piece of advice: Don't do it, dude!

Wanna know why?

I've got two words for you: It's cursed.

Wait, make that three words: It's freakin' cursed!

Let's take a trip back into time.

Remember the first winner of the "Wanna Be a DJ" contest?
Yeah, he doesn't work here anymore.

How about the next contest winner.
Fired, you say? Who knows?

I seem to remember predicting a short reign for the next winner.
Quit after less than a week? For some reason, "I told you so" doesn't seem to cut it.

Right now, DJ Dizzy and DJ Kay Rich are part of the Unfadable Mix Squad. And both, by the way, are BAD ASS on the turntables.

And, you're right, they were both contestants in past "B95 Mixer Idol" contests.
But, the difference is (and this is the important part), they came in at a very close second, but weren't declared the "winner."

So, I think it's safe to say that if you have aspirations of being a long-term part of the Mix Squad......DON'T WIN THE FREAKIN' CONTEST!

Maybe we should consider hiring mixers the old-fashioned way, what do you think?

So, to the winner of the next "B95 Mixer Idol", I would officially like to say CONGRATULATIONS..........

.....also, we wish you well in your future endeavors.

All of these "secrets" and more are revealed in my upcoming book, hitting your local Barnes and Noble stores very soon:

Happy After Fourth of July
Tuesday 07-08-2008 1:58pm PT

I didn't see any fireworks this year, except for a few illegal bottle rockets I spotted from the freeway.
This year on the Fourth of July, I took a lil trip up to S.F. to watch the Giants lose to their arch rivals, the Dodgers.
Fred Lewis really pissed me off that day.

Anyway, cool trip, fun game, great weather. I even got some calls from people saying they saw me on TV.

As we were leaving AT&T Park, I spotted a celeb. The host of "Larry King Live!" was getting out of his first row seats. So, I walked up to him, told him I was a fan of his show, and asked for a photo. He was probably in a good mood cuz his team just won, so he said, "no problem."

Here's me and good ol' Larrry King:

Fresno State!
Tuesday 07-08-2008 5:18pm PT

So, this past Wednesday, history was made in Fresno!

Yup, for the first time ever in this city, there were more Bulldog fans in the streets than there were Bulldog gang members.

Lots of these:

Not many of these:

Seriously though, the baseball team played some good, very entertaining games over the last couple of weeks.
I assume they probably had games before, but I swear I literally had no idea Fresno State even had a baseball team.

Next, you're probably gonna tell me there's a Fresno State Women's Basketball team. Yeah, right. I'm not falling for that one!

I liked the attitude of the players during the Series and at the Fresno State rally.
They seemed like they were just out there having fun.

They were even nice enough to say that they couldn't have done it without the support of the local fans.

Umm......what?

I'm pretty sure they DID do it without the fans. When's the last time you saw anywhere near a sell-out crowd at Beiden Field?

I know I can't be the only one who just started watching the team after they made it to the World Series.

But I'm totally all for anything that promotes city and school pride. Especially if it means drunk college students yelling and running across Shaw Ave.
That's just plain fun.

Congratulations to the Fresno State Bulldog baseball team.

And to every other Fresno State athlete who attends class one day per semester and then just shows up for the final and passes the class: You better step your game up!
