Jessica Simpson is returning to TV -- and this time she wants you to laugh at her.

The star has confirmed that she's set to star in a sitcom for NBC based on her life. She tells The Hollywood Reporter, "I am so excited to work with...NBC again, this time on a scripted comedy. I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life -- so between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we'll have people laughing!"

Jessica has a long track record on the small screen. She starred with her ex-husband, Nick Lachey, on the MTV reality series Newlyweds from 2003 to 2005, did the short-lived VH1 docuseries The Price of Beauty, and most recently mentored contestants on the NBC fashion competition show Fashion Star. Her acting credits include big-screen comedies like Employee of the Month and The Dukes of Hazzard.

She also filmed a pilot for a series called Jessica back in 2004, but the show never made it to the air.

Her dad, Joe Simpson, will serve as a producer on the upcoming sitcom.
