Several rappers took to Twitter over the weekend to send their support to Lil Wayne. One of Wayne's most vocal supporters was T.I. who took issue with TMZ's report that Wayne was close to death. "Just holla'd @my Lil bruh Tunechi...& he straight!," wrote Tip. "That man daughter is like mines. That sh-- surely got his mama hurtin, his kids hurtin,& he got true to da game patnas like me & Othas who ready to RIDE bout all da f--- sh--."
Wayne's YMCB artist Lil Twist also slammed the reports, writing, "I don't give a f--- what the press, media, etc. have to say about me... But don't spread false lies about my family!!" He added, "I just need my fans to understand, my big brother fans, & my lil brother fans to understand that if them maggots didn't spread bull sh--... They couldn't feed theirs. So.... Basically people do whatever they have to do for that Dollar... "
Other artists stayed out of the debate, instead focusing on Wayne's recovery. "Praying for Lil wayne. N his family," tweeted Snoop Dogg. "We need a heavy prayer line to get Wayne bc to life. We need to help. He's our Lil brother @LilTunechi."
Usher interrupted his concert at SXSW to ask fans to send positive energy Wayne's way, saying, "A good friend, Lil Wayne is going through a real hard time right now, y'all. And I just want to send a lot of positive attitude about his state...You know it's ultimately about positive energy. "
Despite the seeming severity of the situation, some Lil Wayne haters couldn't resist the opportunity to make a joke about it. One of the most popular circulating on Twitter over the weekend was, "I heard Lil Wayne's favorite pizza is Lil Seizures." Another favorite was "I hear Lil' Wayne is switching to Maple Syrup," as well as "Lil Wayne couldn't breathe, I guess he was a lil weepy."
But by the end of the weekend the jokes had seemingly worn thin, with one person writing, "They weren't funny at all" and another writing, "y'all have already run those into the ground. Leave them alone."
