Jessica Simpson's father apparently wanted to have his cake and eat it too before the scandal about his gay affair broke. He suggested that he and his wife opt for a so-called "open marriage."

According to the National Enquirer, Joe Simpson proposed that both he and wife Tina could sleep with other folks on the down low, but maintain a public front for the sake of their adult offspring. A source says, "Joe knew his changing lifestyle was now no secret, but he didn’t want to face the public scrutiny of having a divorce bring out all the private details. He told Tina, ‘We can still live as man and wife...just go our separate ways.’"

Tina didn't care much for that idea and decided to sic her lawyers on Joe, who's trying to deny her any access to the family fortune. It's going to be a bumpy ride.
